Don’t you just hate MORNINGS!?!?

December 4th, 2006 by davidk in Uncategorized · No Comments

Morning. The worst time of the day. Don’t you just hate it when you have to wake up early in the morning, especially when your tired? Every day you return from the painful and tiring day of school. You do your homework, read a book and maybe do some sports. By the end of the day, you would be tired and sleep.

It’s morning, you are still sleeping when…your mother STORMS into the room shaking you to life. You wake up, freezing in the morning air. Don’t you just hate it.

Mornings are the start of a new day. They should allow you to be well rested and strong to go through a long day, either in work or at school. Either way, you need to have a good sleep. It is the most important part of the day. If you had no breakfast in the morning, you would be too tired to kick start your day, or in other words (as people put it) “stoned”. That is why it is critical to use your “morning” time wisely.

A few ways of sustaining your energy throughout the day, which means from the morning, is to:

1. Sleep nice and early (people tend to sleep late, around 11 to 12)

2. Have breakfast before you even think about going anywhere.

3. Try to have a gentle jog on a park or something.

The 2004 Tsunamis

November 9th, 2006 by davidk in Uncategorized · No Comments

On December 26, 2004 there was tsunamis that wiped out coastal communities across South and Southeast Asia, including parts of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand. This tsunami was caused by an undersea earthquake in the Indian Ocean, causing several tsunamis to spread and advance towards coastal communities across South and Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand.

Due to the tsunamis, there was a death toll of up to 186,983 with 42,883 people missing and a staggering number of 229,866 lost.

The earthquake underneath the Indian Ocean was recorded 9.0 on the Richtor scale, which is the second largest earthquake ever recorded on the seismograph. This also means that the tsunami would be capable of a staggering height. As it was predictable, the waves of the tsunami of up to 30m (100ft) high.

The earthquake was also reported to be the longest duration of faulting ever observed, lasting between 500 and 600 seconds, and it was so large that it caused the entire planet to vibrate at least half an inch, or over a centimetre. It also triggered earthquakes in other locations as far away as Alaska.

Everyone was devasted by the news, the damage that has been caused by the tsunamis and the fact that this disaster has happened on “Boxing Day”. The amount of damage that the tsunami has caused leaved the people with no homes, no food and no shelter. Only humanitarian aid could help restore the damage that has been inflicted on many countries and coastal communities. The humanitarian response was world wide as people donated money into helping the “tsunami affected”. In total, US $7 billion was donated to aid those who have been affected by the tsunamis.

The tsunamis would effect the people who were swept away from all their belongings and wealth, leaving them homeless, digging for their daily food and stopping the flow of tourists coming to their countries. The world is effected by the tsunami because it ruined many beautiful cities and countries for tourists to see and remember. The future is very dim as it will be hard for children and adults to live in the ruins of their beloved cities and countries. It will be hard to recover what is lost from the tsunamis.

The EXAM

October 26th, 2006 by davidk in Uncategorized · No Comments

It was Monday morning. The exam was on. It was a big worry because i hadn’t studied for it. Well, it wasn’t quite like that.

I had around a month to study the test, but through that time, I thought…I’ll do this later. Soon the time for the exam came and I started to study. But, I did not study much and here I am, just in front of the door to hell (actually the door to the exam).

Swing, the door was opened and a dozen eyes of students were looking straight at me. I knew that the fate of the exam all depended on my brains. I ran inside the room and sat myself at the back of the room. The teacher then moved around the room, giving out the sheets for the exam. “Start!” she said.

I quickly got a blue pen and started writing ferociously onto the paper. After 10 minutes my hand started to feel pain. After another 30 minutes I had written over 2 pages on the essay writing task. The essay writing task was based on an argument, Is the media a waste of time? I wrote that the media was not a waste of time and also gave the evidence of this the best way I could.

After another hour, the exam finally ended with the teacher collecting the sheets. I flexed my fingers as I came out of the room with my friends. I knew that this was only the start of the exams. Although I am glad that this exam was over, I knew I would have to start studying for the other exams…not like the exam today.

Lord of The Rings: Return of the King

August 3rd, 2006 by davidk in Uncategorized · No Comments

One interesting film that I have watched recently was “Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.” I would consider this film the best from all the others that I have watched recently.

Frodo, the holder of the ring was to destroy it by throwing it into the hot volcano called “Mt. Doom.” Although Frodo was outgoing a dangerous journey with his friend, Sam, Gandulf and his friends had to take a journey to Gondor in order to save them from the huge army.

As they arrived at Gondor ready for battle they saw an army of allies running towards Gondor. As Gandulf looked up he saw a Nazgul. Immediately, Gandulf rode towards the Nazgul, staff in hand and used his magic to scare off the creature of darkness. They arrived at Gondor safe and sound.

The crackling of thunder sounded between the two huge armies. As they marched towards each other arrows whistled across followed by cries of the shot and the blood-thirsty crows. As many fell to their death another orc filled in for their mate. As hard as they tried their was no chance for the people of Gondor to win this battle. Each man that died destroyed the determination of the people that have survived.

Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam were having a hard time to keep theirselves hidden from the Nazgul. As Frodo and Sam climbed to Mt. Doom, they realised that they had to know the directions to their location. This caused a big problem for them until…they found Gollum that claimed to know the way to Mt. Doom. Unfortunately, it was Gollum’s nature to betray others and so Frodo and Sam are left in the middle of Mt. Doom, with the orcs and the tower of the “Eye” watching.

Now their hopes are rendered useless. The fate for the humans, Gandulf and Frodo relied on the arrival of their last allies Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Rohan’s army. This was their last hope of survival.

~International Day~

July 20th, 2006 by davidk in Uncategorized · 2 Comments

International Day was a day where every student and teacher in the school could share their traditional/cultural foods, songs and “items” with one another. Through this, different cultures could harmonize with others.

International Day took place in the 19th of July, 2006. The food was incredible, the stalls nicely designed and the concert was amazing. Also, the mini World Cup was held. This was the only special event on International Day but it was very exciting. Unfortunately, I couldn’t see any familiar faces. It was a pity that I could not cheer for anyone that I knew.

Overall, International Day was a success. Everyone could admire and compliment at each others cultures and traditions. Although mostly everything was good, there were a few negative points for this special day. One thing was for sure that there was a lot of rubbish at the end of the day. Through coorperation, everything was abled to be cleaned and everyone exited the school with smiles on faces…

~The Speech~

June 7th, 2006 by davidk in Uncategorized · No Comments

“There will be a speech assignment for you to work on through the holidays,” Mrs Raynor told us. Immediately I got into a fit and collapsed from the overflowing of blood, from the anger received, from the announcement that Mrs Raynor had given. Or to make a long story short, I was fumed at what the teacher had told me.

Week 1 of holidays…- Ok. Hmm. What should my speech be on. Let me think, and the next minute…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I’m asleep. This continued for a week because of me having fun overseas. Anyways…I woke up in the morning of Sunday (week 1) thinking, hmmm what will I do my speech on. Aha! I have to pack up for church. More action, less thinking. So I listened to my brain and packed my bag for church.

Week 2 of holidays- I was racking my brains for ideas. Ok ok. Lets think. Knock knock knock. “Can David play soccer outside?” So I went out to play soccer. And then a terrible thought struck me…….I’m hungry. So I came back to eat lunch. And there went another 2 days of the 2nd week of the 2nd holidays in this year.

This is serious, I thought to myself. And then, I got an idea. Chocolate. I mean seriously… Chocolate, simple. Chocolate, the smooth, creamy, tasty, addicting and so on. Any how. I had come up with the subject. Great. What about the actual speech. S**** (censored). So I took 1 hour of my precious holiday time to write down my speech. I also was generous enough to buy a box of chocolate to give a little sample of the taste of chocolate :). Rehearsing the speech was another story for I only had a few days to write, edit and also rehearse the speech.

Ok. Today was the speech day. Alright. Breathe in deep and breathe out. Ok. Confidence. Don’t shake and so my mental notes went on. 1st english lesson the teacher did not pick my name from the purple tub in which she picked up names for the speech. So I got more time to prepare the speech.

Next day, I volunteered to do my speech. Ok. So I was standing in front of my class, shaking violently. Then I spoke. I was amazed at how fast the speech went. I looked around the class. I looked at Warren. Bad sign, he’s not paying attention. I failed :(. I finished and sat down. Now all I need to do is hand out the chocolates which I did. It was completely unbelievable that everyone crowded around wanting to get the chocolate. But there was not enough for everyone because some “greedy” people took 2 of them. I will definetely get more chocolate next time so that everyone can have 1!

Sophie Delezio survives yet another accident.

May 17th, 2006 by davidk in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

Recently in the news, I found out that Sophie Delezio, the 5 year old girl, survived yet another accident after the horrific incident a few years ago.

2 years ago, she was burnt by a car which lost the road, crashing into a day care centre. 2 girls were buried under the car, suffering burns. 1 girl was Molly (Sophie’s friend) who suffered 40% burns around her body and the other was Sophie who suffered 80% burns around her body. Sophie had also lost both feet, fingers and an ear. But with Sophie’s determination to survive, she recovered.

Nearly recovered after 2 years, she was being pushed in her pram across a pedestrian crossing in front of Frenchs Forest Road. While she was crossing, she was hit by a car. This ended in her jaw and shoulder bone breaking, her head being bruised, rib fractures and bleeding around her left lung.

She has not recovered much and still is in critical condition after the accident. She is known to return home soon, although time must be given for recovery.

This story inspired me the most because, while we cry on small issues, Sophie had braved 80% burns around her body, taking around 2 years to recover. But then, most recently, she had another accident. You don’t find children who can survive that much strolling on streets.

One thing is for sure that at the slightest hope, anything can be accomplished with a little help and determination.

Attack of the KILLER BUNNY!

May 11th, 2006 by davidk in Uncategorized · No Comments

I grasped my hands together and prepared to open the presents set before me. The rhythm was basically like this. Rip, rip, rip…gasp. Rip, rip, rip…gasp, and so it went on until I saw the last box, alone in the mountain of paper wrappings. I grasped it with both my hands and carefully teared at it. Gasps sounded around me. The children stared.

I remember, well and clearly, the day I got the action game…“Attack of the Killer BUNNY!” It was the most popular, yes, but it had frightened, even shocked children so much that they never gained their sanity ever again. OK, ok, I over exaggerated a bit but yes, there has been reports on many nightmares and even the rebellion of parents who want the game company itself to be destroyed. That’s when I come into the story.

I glanced to my parent’s room. The coast is clear. I silently slid through the corridor and got the key from the drawer. Click. Yes!! Here I come, Attack of the Killer Bunny. I slid back into my room and placed the CD in the computer.

I looked to my door and saw nothing. Good. I pressed the enter key and the game started. I looked and already I was shocked at what I was seeing. I will not tell you what I was seeing in the sake of not turning you insane Anyways, I started playing.

I was armed with only a basket full of chocolate eggs. Suddenly, tap, tap, tap, tap… the Killer Bunny was glancing at me. I shivered and assumed that he was looking at my character. Suddenly…I heard my bedroom door swing open, very slowly. There stood a dark figure, covered in a brown coat. He pointed at me with a nasty snarl. Then he threw something (I think it was something sharp) at me.

I screamed in agony, springing out of my bed. My parents rushed into my room, looking at me worriedly. “It was all a dream??” I thought to myself. I glanced at the computer and saw it had some dark substance over it. It was placed as if to say…The Easter Reaper was here!!! Ignoring my parents’ questions, I looked out the window only to see a dark figure with a brown coat. He smiled at me, pointing at me with his butcher knife and an evil grin; I could hear his voice saying “NEXT TIME, WE WILL MEET AGAIN!” I shivered and looked away.

Book Review

March 29th, 2006 by davidk in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

I have been reading a book called “Hatchet”. It was a good book and I would recommend you to read this book.

A boy, named Brian, was in a plane to visit his father (because his parents had divorced). While the pilot was flying the plane, the pilot suddenly had a heart attack, leaving Brian to die. Extraordinarily, Brian survives the crash and is left to fend for himself, somewhere in the middle of the Canadian Oil Fields. During his period on this unknown land, he learns how to hunt fish, kill birds, make a fire and use his knowledge to survive. One day, when he was hunting a bird, he heard the sound of a plane. He desperately ran to a opening in the fields and started the fire. Unluckily, the plane does not see him and goes away. All hope was lost for Brian.

Brian thought of how he would survive the future. Throwing this thought away, he sleeps in peace in his cosy shelter. During his nap, he saw the surival pack in the air plane. Luckily enough, the plane did not sink in the water, allowing Brian to enter the plane and retrieve the survival pack. When he finally opened the survival pack, he felt like he was a millionare because there were matches, lighters, food and other “riches”. One question was, “How will he survive??”

I think that this story is a very well written book because the author has included very interesting characters, plotted the story well and used a lot of descriptive language. All in all, I would rate this book 5 out of 5 and I would thoroughly recommend you to read this book.  I thought Hatchet was a great piece of literature. You don’t know what will happen next.

Stanley’s Interview

March 15th, 2006 by davidk in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

Reporter: Good morning Stanley.

Stanley: Good morning to you as well.

Reporter: I’m here to talk to you about your stay at Camp Green Lake.

Stanley: (Groans).

Reporter: I know it must have been a terrible experience, but I’m pretty sure that it won’t happen again.

Stanley: Lets hope.

Reporter: Anyways, I would be greatful if you can describe your stay at Camp Green Lake. Right from the beginning.

Stanley: OK… I was sentenced to Camp Green Lake when…

Reporter: Why did you get sentenced again? I want details if you don’t mind.

Stanley: I was accused of stealing Clyde Livingtons shoes and then sentenced to Camp Green Lake and pronounced guilty.

Reporter: Yeah. And then.

Stanley: I dug holes for Camp Green Lake in order to ”build character” although it didn’t seemed it was to “build character”. Anyways… I survived there for a few months, and then ran away to follow Zero…

Reporter: Hold on… Who’s Zero? Why did you run away?

Stanley: Can you please stop asking me?

Reporter: Asking you what? I said I wanted detailed information if you don’t mind.

Stanley: I then found Zero and stopped him from dying….

Reporter: Who is Zero? How can you stop him from dying?

Stanley: Could you please stop asking me these questions?

Reporter: If you wish.

Stanley: Anyways, we walked back to Camp Green Lake, and we dug the loot that Kate Barlow….

Reporter: Do you mean Katherine Barlow, the famous outlaw? Could you please speak in detail if you don’t mind?

Stanley: I said could you please stop asking me these questions.

Reporter: And I asked you to speak in detail.

Stanley: OK. Fine. It is Katherine Barlow the famous outlaw and I stopped Zero from dying by finding water for him to drink.

Reporter: Where exactly did you find the water?

Stanley: I found the water at God’s thumb.

Reporter: God’s thumb? What and where do you mean by God’s thumb?

Stanley: It is a mountain that has a “thumbs up” shaped ’sculpture’ on top of a mountain. That is where I found the water. I call it “God’s thumb”.

Reporter: Ok. I never saw or heard anything about “God’s thumb”.

Stanley: Well you did now.

Reporter: I’m sorry Stanley but that is all we have time for. Thanks for coming to the interview. It’s good to have met you. I hope we meet again.

Stanley: Me too.

*End of recording and interview*

Reporter: And remember, there is at least a few tv crews waiting for you outside. Just telling you.

Stanley: Thank you.

Stanley walks outside the broadcast room and steps out of the exit.

Reporters: Stanley, will you please take this very short interview.

Stanley: (Groans and mumbles to himself).
